Ok so i know by this point like a million people have already given a load of tips on this but ill give mine anyway just in case there helpful.
1. Pop up tents - Ive seen a few people saying dont take them, theyre not very weatherproof and have all kinds of problems. What id say is if you want one get a Vango DS Dart 200 or 300 (As in the 200 is a 2 man or the 300 is a 3 man tent). Its a dual skin with a small porch and holds up in even winter camping conditions (Mine has survived 2 Leeds festivals and many many camps away all year round in the 3 years ive had it) and whats even better is the poles arent over tensed and are made of a really good material, to the extent that if someone falls through/jumps on your tent it will most likely spring back into shape quite happily afterwards.
2. Money - On the one hand its possible to do a budget festival once your there, but tbh for most people its a holiday, so if you have plenty of money dont be stingy with it, go on a few fair ground rides, buy food in the arena so you dont have to walk back to your tent, buy random items from the various stalls just cos your at a festival and you can... its all part of what makes festivals great!
3. Pot Noodle - Ok so i dont eat these when im at home, cant stand them, i defo dont eat them at festivals.. but my friends do and normally bring more than they actually eat... And spare pot noodles at the end of the weekend means Tent Pole Baseball! The most fun (Albeit messy) thing to do at a festival. One of you grabs a tent pole (Probably best to take turns) one of you bowls left over pot noodles, and then you hit them with the tent pole... they explode into a shower of pot noodle smelling dust... i realise its really immature but its a bloody good laugh when your waiting for your other mates to finish packing down there tents.
4. Tents - If you dont wana pack em down on the last day (which can be a nightmare i know) still dont leave em lying there or light them on fire... in about 10 seconds you can unpeg them, lash the pegs in the inner compartment, pop the poles out and lash them in the inner compartment, pull the outer off and lash it in the inner compartment and then zip the inner up, takes no time at all practically, you dont have to worry bout faffing round getting it to fit in a bag it clearly wasnt designed to fit in and just hand the bundle in at the tent collection point on your way out, it goes to charity, everyones happy!
5. Inhibitions - Ok first off i am the most serious, uptight, and least confident person i know of, so i completely get the "im not doing that, ill look like an idiot" thing, but when your at a festival you have to let those inhibitians go... if deep down you think itd be fun to do, as long as its not gona cause harm to anyone then go for it... i garuntee if you can do this youll have the best weekend of your life! If your already one of those crazy people who just does things without thinking of the repurcusions (and i envy you, i really do, cos i wish i could be more cavalier!) Then just carry on doing what you do cos youve got it down to a T!
6. Gear - Dont take anything you dont need, take things that pack away light and small, dont take gear that was expensive in case something happens to it, pack a good rucksack not a suitcase, try not to bring any valuables or ipods or expensive phones, get a cheap or old phone and just stick your sim in it.
7. Remember - Suncream, a hat, a decent waterproof (i take a packamack, goes on over a hoody so im warm and dry, and fits into the space of a small clenched fist), comfy shoes like trainers (maybe a spare pair of these to) and something like wellies in case it lashes down, Sunglasses, spare clothes, warm clothes, shorts, beers/ciders/spirits/wine/tipple of choice (I love the word tipple sorry so i had to find a way to use it!)
8. getting there - Travelling by train and shuttle bus is dead easy, especially if you wana camp in yellow white or blue as thats where the shuttle bus drops off, although cars are completely doable, just make sure you get as many people in the car as possible to save on petrol money and remember someones gotta drive home monday morning so that measn going easy sunday night.
9. Camping - Set up around mates, talk to your neighbours, the more the merrier, leave space for a camp fire (dont get daft with it though), look out for each other, beware the toilets =p
10 Fibre - Ive heard a few people commenting on not to eat anything with fibre as it makes you poo more (Something we all want to avoid at festivals) however remember if you dont eat fibre then it winds up coming out practically as liquid which is gona be even more unpleasent at festivals... have a bit of fibre just dont over do it!
Hopefully this was helpful to someone at least
and remember of course have fun and dont stress on things! if its your first time youll love it and if its not there must be a reason your coming back =p
