HIYA, can someone have a read through these and inform me if I've missed anything. Tips and tricks for survival - If you do invest in an airbed, get a pump otherwise you will be sat blowing it up for nearly an hour.
- Take a hexi stove and some canned goods, festival food is crazily priced
- Take a water carrier that is ergonomic – get water for the whole weekend rather than get it every day.
- Take a clash finder – They are cheaper than the official ones on site. You can usually find these on the internet just before the festival is due to start.
- Take condoms, as you would rather be safe than sorry!
- Camp near a landmark or flag, or you may struggle to find your tent.
- Try not to camp next to walkways or toilets, as your tent may get stood on or smell.
- Don’t use guy ropes on your tent unless it is exceptionally windy, as they are dangerous to yourself and other festival goers at night.
- Don’t store all of your money in one place, spread it around. This will lessen your chance of becoming penniless if the worst does happen.
- Make friends with your neighbours, as you then will have an extra set of eyes to watch over your tent and belongings.
- Keep all important items on you at all times, if they are not stored in a locker.
- Don’t over pack!
- Always take a thick pair of socks for on a night.
- Always take a roll of duct tape, just in case something does happen to your tent.
- Wellies are always a good idea, even if it isn’t forecast to rain. Buying them at the festival will drain your funds.
- Never forget baby wipes, they always come in handy.
- Always take your shoes off before getting into your tent; you might have really muddy feet! A tent with a porch area for shoes and wellies is ideal.
- Cereal bars are incredible for on a morning as they are so easy to have on you and you don’t have to cook them.
- Always use sun cream, even if it doesn’t seem that warm or sunny, you have to remember you are outside for 98% of you time at the festival.
- Don’t expect much from the toilets, you are living on bare minimums throughout the course of the festival. They will not smell of roses at all.
- If you use a drawstring backpack then it is harder for anyone to steal your stuff.
- Take extra layers for warmth, no one ever truly believes just how cold it gets on a night.
- If you aren’t savvy then you will spend more money than you anticipated.
- Arrange a meeting point near each stage, and then if you lose your friends in the crowd then you can carry on enjoying then band, as you will know where you will meet them all after the set it over.
- Use the official festival website before attending, as they generally put up tips and tricks of their own which will be specific to their own festival.
- Don’t stress out about being dirty, everyone else is as well!
- Be careful with alcohol consumption, it may seem like a good idea at the time and just because you are at a festival doesn’t mean that it won’t ruin your time there.
- If you are looking for clean toilets always try the ones furthest away.
- The toilet cubicles are generally always cleaned on a morning, plan around that.
- Don’t plan your festival too rigidly, as you may miss something and disappoint yourself all for the sake of sticking to your plan.
- Sleeping bags work better when you wear fewer layers, so sleep naked!
- Always take hand sanitizer wherever you go, you never know when the toilets have ran out.
- A handy pack of tissues will always come in useful, just in case.
- Make use of the welfare tents, they are there for a reason; they are really helpful and non-judgemental. They are just looking out for you and making sure that you have the best time that you can.
- If you are taking alcohol to the festival, don’t forget to decanter it into a plastic container, or else you risk it being confiscated when you are entering the campsite.
- Try and pack light, make sure you can actually pick up your bag and walk with it!
- Don’t put a lock on your tent from the outside; it just screams ‘I have something worth stealing’.
- If you do end up forgetting anything, you can generally buy all festival related items in the campsite shop!
- Take bin bags, because then you can put wet or dirty clothes in it, also if it doesn’t rain then you can always help the environment by giving your campsite a little clean up before you leave.
- Don’t get hung up on looking amazing, no one will care what you look like.
- Don’t forget to drink plenty of water; you will be on your feet all day so you don’t want to become dehydrated.
- Burnt food is better than raw food.
- Always pack painkillers and a small first aid kit, or even just plasters. It will all come in handy.
- Wear a watch, if you check the time on your phone it will quickly run out of battery.
- Take a spare phone, or spare batteries for your phone, either can be picked up on eBay for quite cheap.
- Be prepared for long queues when you get there. The partying doesn’t start right away.
- Take roll on deodorant, aerosols are banned from most festivals.
- Become a religious user of lip balm, the outside weather will take its toll if you don’t.
- Practice putting your tent up and down before you go; this will help you avoid much stress when it comes to the real thing.
- Don’t take nice shoes or clothes, try and be practical.
- Try and keep an open mind but still be vigilant.
- Bring an airbed, or even a lilo. Your back with thank you after the first night.
- Try to buy a double skinned tent, this will mean that condensation inside of your tent won’t get any of your stuff wet.
- Don’t miss bands that you want to see just because no one else wants to see them. Just go by yourself, obviously stay safe and arrange a meeting point and time for afterwards though.
- Go through the line up before you get there, otherwise you might end up missing something that you would have really enjoyed.
- Make sure you have contact numbers for all of your friends, and to be extra careful, get their parents numbers too, just in case your friend loses their phone and needs to phone home but doesn’t remember the number off by heart.
- Do a double check that you have your ticket before you set off.
- If you do want to be at the front/near the front for a band, be prepared to be pushed and crushed. Everyone else is having the same idea.
- Don’t forget to eat, with all the exciting things that are happening you can easily forget to.
