Hmm, your probably right, I was just thinking theyre quite a big band with a new album, not a fan myself.

I also thought maybe Megadeth, Soundgarden or Smashing Pumpkins

Id be happy with any of those three, but agree Soundgarden seem the only one possible for Leeds, although they are also rumoured to be subbing Black Sabbath at Download. Guess we'll find out tomorrow if thats true and potentially what it means with regards to an appearance at Leeds.

Regarding Weezer, its not completely out of the question that they'll play, but it would only be 2 years since they were here last and whilst there are bands that come back year after year, Weezer are not one of them. I would say its very unlikely.

Given that they played in 2010, I wouldnt have thought it was particularly likely. I think theyre releasing an album this year though? If they get it out soon and its a big hit, I wouldnt say its impossible.

Generally I find that the only bands that play within two years of each other are either british or up and coming (and thus moving up the stages). Usually both.

For example I wouldnt be surprised if the Vaccines played the main stage this year after having played the NME stage last year.  However Id be very suprised if Pigeon Detectives played this year after playing the main stage last year.

You can never be certain, there are some odd bookings. Wouldnt get my hopes up though.

Not really. British bands can often play with small gaps, as can certain American bands like QOTSA, but Weezer have only played once in all the Leeds I've been to and I doubt they'll be back again so soon. Would be good though

Foos are pretty much locked in for Leeds from what I understand.

Enter Shikari
The Prodigy
Daft Punk

ITS KASABIAN ITS ON THE RUMOUR PAGE

It is.

I'm 99% sure they're headlining.

I'm just that little bit short of info to make it a TBC so it could possibly be wrong. But I don't think it is.

Just been posted by Neil from the eFestivals forums. Also Foo Fighters are now TBC and he's very confident they are nailed on headliners. Not a massive Kasabian fan, was hoping for someone a bit bigger with Glasto not being on.

Foo Fighters, Kasabian, Green Day

Reckon Chili's are a possibility and at an outside bet, Slipknot.  They've not been billed to play R&L since they pulled out of 2008 at the last minute.  They're apparently "strengthening slipknot" this year, so I reckon a festival appearance could be on the cards.  Or maybe I'm just being hopeful.

Pretty much true about R&L not having a metal headliner since Sonisphere.  Sucks.

Im pretty sure that melvin said in an interview that R/L will probably never go back to being a heavier festival (more than likely due to the arrival of sonisphere), so i doubt slipknot would be there!

Even if a band like slipknot or soad headline, i wouldnt expect a heavy undercard!

really hope we don't get someone uninspiring like The Killers now to round off a pretty safe but strong set of headliners.
From how it looks, Kasabian (Neil saying he's 99% sure) and Foo's being there opens the door for a band that deserves to headline but would get a smaller crowd, hopefully with a strong undercard too, without affecting the ability for R/L to sell out quick. Ideally, I'd love The Cure with Smashing Pumpkins subbing, or Pixies or New Order under.

Re:2012 Headliners? 04 February 2012 18:57 (permalink)
For me possible headliners are
Foo Fighters, Killers, Kasabian, The Cure, Daft Punk, Blur, Bloc Party

Foo Fighters are 100% which im not bothered about, I like them, but i only think theyre okay and they dont particularly excite me as they play loads of festivals.
Kasabian seem about 75% which disapppoints me a lot, dont think theyre good enough or big enough to headline, Id love them as subs as I do like Kasabian, but hate them as headliners, and Im pretty sure theyve said theyll only play if they headline.
The Cure are looking more and more likely for me, id got 75% again for them to headline, really hope they do epic and iconic band, dont play loads of festivals like kasbian and foos do so it would be different to V and T in the Park etc. They arent one of my favourite bands but Id love to see them.
The Killers are looking less likely by the day for me, mainly cos its looking like Kasabian are so likely. Cant see The Killers and Kasabian headlining the same year for some reason. Id give them about 25% now, shame, favourite band and theyre just amazing, and even better live, gutted that I dont think theyll headline anymore.
Daft Punk. The only way I wont be disappointed in The Cure dont headline is if Daft Punk do instead. Before the Cure emerged as such strong candidates I thought Daft Punk were about 50%, now im thinking more like 10%
Blur are another outside bet for me, would be really good but I think theyre less likely than the Cure, and Id rather see the cure.
Not Sure about Bloc Party, theyre the only one of the ones Ive listed that I could also see subbing, really hoping they do, like with Kasabian, I like them enough so that Id love them to sub, hate them to headline. Think its looking less likely that theyll headline, whether that means they sub or dont play at all who knows.

despite me just saying how much I love the Killers I completely agree. I want the Killers to play instead of Kasabian. If its Foos and Kasabian or Foos and The Killers theyve gone way safe with the first two and should definately go for The Cure or Daft Punk.

think the most likely headliner combinations are
Foo Fighters
Kasabian or The Killers
The Cure or Daft Punk

Really hope its foos, killers, cure. Think it will be foos, kasabian, cure.
