It doesn't exactly grind my gears but it does make me cringe when I see stuff about it. Tyne And Wear Metro: The Musical. "l...l...l...lets go, on the m...m...m...metro"

Natalie291 Darksun CraigSaph Natalie291 Flo, I've LOVED doing English so so much. But I really wish, sometimes, that I'd done a course that led me straight into a career, and I'm sure a few others would agree. Then again, it's worth doing something you enjoy learning. Have a proper good look into both, and make sure you don't rush into a decision. /mum voice I agree The thing is, hardly any degrees these days have a guaranteed career path at the end of it, other than like medicine and nursing and perhaps law (but even then it's not guaranteed). I mean, you might expect Computer Science to have a lot of jobs at the end of it but it turned out recently that it's the least employable degree Ayye, I guess I meant one which will allow me to do work placements and stuff and train me to do a specific job and then at the time of graduation, I'd be prepared and experienced enough in a certain career. So basically an NHS course. I'm studying Philosophy, so it's basically a given that that won't lead me to any particular career. But to be honest, careers had very little to do with why I wanted to go to uni and why I chose to study what I did.

Same. Even though I would like to swap my degree in hindsight, I never actually came here to start my career. The experience is the main reason why.

I hate my art course. Its totally self indulgent. "analyse this piece of string" no, **** off. I wanna learn something, and write something, not analyse a bit of ****ing twine. Its a toss up between nursing [I think I'd be good at that] Primary education andd English. I've had to seriously re-think my degree. I've met too many Chester art graduates [who got 2:1's and firsts] who are still working in pubs years after graduating as they simply can't get onto a PGCE [which I wanna do] or find a job with an art degree. I'm simply not talented enough to really excell above others. I need a degree I can travel with, and English/Primary teaching/nursing. If I did nursing I'd be doing it at manc uni, shawooop. I came home on wednesday because I was feeling so utterly ****ty, and when I got chatting to my mam she exposed me to how much I've not been enjoying my course, as in I'd not really thought about it. Cried for hours. I've got to think realistically now, I can't afford to get this choice wrong again. I wish I'd thought more sensibly before going down the art route, as much as I love it, I hate contempory art [which is essentially my course], and I'm very unlikely to find a job. Its sad we have to be like this :(

You kind of did what I did Flo, the first time I went to Uni. I chose to do my degree on Fashion and brand promotion with Photography. Now, I've no idea how I got accepted as my A Level's are in media, not in fashion or photography. I basically chose a degree that was my hobby. Big mistake, for myself. For one, it made me hate my hobby for years afterwards and two, I didn't have a bloody clue what was going on. I took a year out, got a job and figured my life out a little. That's when I decided to go down the radio path, which I've wanted to do since I was 13, and should have done it all along. It's an expensive mistake to make, but you live and learn!

Yeah totally. But as my mam put it, better to realise it now, rather than three years later. I feel English may be the way forward, as I'd teach English abroad. i.e. in Canada, who knows. English certainly opens more doors than art for travelling. But cheers for sharing Katie, I feel a little more confident in my decision now :) x

glad to hear it lisa! flo, try not to worry. i felt the same with my course and that's why i dropped out. i wasn't really enjoying it and the chances of me getting a job at the end were slim to none. it didn't really hit me til i was talking to my friends and the majority who'd graduated were on the dole/working rubbish jobs and that. if i was enjoying my course i would have probably stuck it out but i wasn't, and i didn't see the point in staying for longer/getting in more debt to be in the same place when i graduated. i don't really regret going because of the experience but i'm so glad that i dropped out. i still have no idea what i want to do with my life D: but when i figure it out, i'll look back into uni and that , if that's the path i need to choose! erm yeh incoherent ramble but try not to worry to much, take a year out if that's what you need to get your head sorted/research and really make a descision that you know you'll be happy with however many years down the line

mellymeep How its always the pretty, middle class, white girls who get all the news coverage when they go missing. Obviously its very, very sad that this Sian girl has been murdered and my thoughts go out to her family and friends but it still annoys me. Well most news watchers are white middle class people aren't they? Not saying it's right but it's bound to happen As for degrees, I'm happy I took the degree I did. But then I don't tend to worry about an awful lot and just believe everything will work out in the end

Putting on a shirt for tonight and it's ridiculously small. I can't work out whether I've grown or it's shrank (although I've not worn it for aaaages.) it fit me fine in first year and now it barely covers the top of my jeans </3

Flo i deffo think you are doing the right thing in trying to change course. I have so much regret when it comes to my choice in uni course. I loved the life and everyone i met but i made a bad choice and it left me disliking something i once loved. I dont think my degree will aid me in my career at all. Gona have to start from scratch again and work my way up now. I hope you can get it all sorted.

My friend reckons because he's going to a better uni than me then he's going to get a better job and get a job quicker than me. In short I told him to **** off although he reckons he was taking the ****.
