I'm no longer ment to do heavy impact activities because of my knee's therefore swimming is the only real cardio i enjoy doing any more, back the doctors next week to see about my knees a bit more as I really wanna start snowboarding.

I'm starting the gym this week for the third time in my life. The longest the other times have lasted was once every 3 days which went on for about 2 weeks... fail. I have an iPod and people to go with now though so perhaps I'll stick with it. I just want to lose 'holiday weight' as I'm at an all time high following Xmas D: It'd probably be good to not feel tired from walking to Uni as well.

This is the worst time ever to join the gym, everyone has a new years kick, goes and spends a fortune on joggers and memberships and its all gone to pot in a month. I reckon its best off to start walking more and running outdoors, and if you get into it, then start to pay. I was lucky at uni, it was £25 for a year, but its rare you find places so cheap.

I agree with Hazel, if you want to get fit, at least start off just jogging/ running. Even just to build up discipline 'cause saying 'gym's give you that extra incentive' is balls. Gym's are only really needed to get PUMPED/ a waste of money, and if you wanna get pumped and you're not even a sportsman you need culled.

^^ Hahahaha image fail, unless you're planning to turn into a really skinny fella with a huge head, (steroids and gym should do if you want to.) trying to get back into running, good doing it in the sticks, I can sing along to NWA and not get looked at weird ('cause no one's around), wouldn't happen in the gym.

The prospect of running isn't so nice. I'd rather pay to just swim than the use all the gym equipment though. Not to mention i've never been to a gym with unfit people in it... I always think i'm far too big for the gym. I've found the wii fit is pretty excellent (but i didn't have to pay for it, so that's a benefit)

I can't really run, what with my really weak hurty ankle (damn you broken bones), so I think the bike will do me for getting some weight off. Then when I've got more stamina/less out of shape then I will move on to the treadmills, walking, then jogging etc. I need to get rid of my upper arms though. It's particularly annoying having to stretch the arms of tops before I even put them on.
